The Krebsbachtal is a stream and spring area close to the city with extensive ponds in the floodplain in the city of Weil am Rhein in the district of Lörrach. It is one of the last refuges for numerous animal and plant species in the region. At the foot of the slope of the low terrace is a spring horizon that is quite comparable to the landscape in the Petite Camarque Alsacienne. The pure spring water is home to demanding plants, such as watercress, and animals, such as the yellow-bellied toad, the Alpine newt, the kingfisher or variegated and green woodpeckers. In addition, reeds, reed canary grass and marsh irises grow at the pools in the thinned-out floodplain forest. The oak forest at the edge of the terrace is densely overgrown with blue starlings in spring.
Tour
The upper entrance to the nature reserve is well signposted at the western end of Heinrich-Haas-Strasse. Stairs lead down to the Krebsbach stream. A footpath leads along the Krebsbach in a south-easterly direction, opening up the landscape. Before the first tunnel passage, you return to the starting point.
Because of the small size of the nature reserve, it is not suitable for groups or schools. Also naturalistically, the walk is more suitable for specialists and less as a recreational excursion.
Refreshments
There are no picnic or barbecue areas in the nature reserve. However, there are various restaurants and shopping facilities in Haltingen. The Moser guesthouse at the railway station in Haltingen is recommended.
