The Hittenberg is a varied cultural and natural landscape with meadows, fields, hedges, copses and fallow land in the municipality of Hésingue, right next to Saint-Louis and the EuroAirport. The hills are covered with loess and loess loam and typical loess hollow paths lead to the plain a few metres higher with old and small parcelled cultivated land. Orchards, partially abandoned vineyards and small vegetable gardens alternate, allowing for a variety of flora and fauna rarely seen in the Basel area. With a little luck, the cuckoo, for example, will make its typical call in the forest.
Tour
The starting point for most of the walks is the cemetery on the northern edge of Hésingue and can be extended as required.
Refreshments
There are several restaurants and shopping facilities in Hésingue. However, the forest does not have any picnic or barbecue sites.
