The Nonnenbruchwald (Fôret de Nonnebruch) is a protected forest area that extends over the territory of a number of municipalities such as Aspach-le-Bas, Berrweiler, Feldkirch, Reiningue, Richwiller or Wittelsheim. It is the most important forest area in the west of the Mulhouse region.

The contiguous forest area was fragmented by mining activities, so that today parts of the sparse forest are dry in places, but alternate with wet areas and a small alluvial landscape. The Rothmoos regional nature reserve is located in this forest massif. To the west and south lies the former mining area of the potash mines. The rubble mountains are still visible today and offer exciting biotopes for a rich insect fauna consisting of, for example, iris butterflies, small kingfishers or stag beetles. The clearing areas are dominated by bushes of the Scotch broom, while the forest consists mainly of ash and sea grass. Yellow iris, groups of birch and willows occur in the damp places. In the south there are many old oaks and thickets. At the edge of the forest, especially in the west, there is extensive wasteland with the characteristic red corn poppy.

Tour

This walk starts at the Étang du Seeboden. Follow the blue signposted path north through the forest to the Staffelfelden turn-off. There you turn left until you reach a farm, where you cross the railway tracks and turn left again until you reach a crossroads. From there you can follow the path with green markings through the forest and thus practically walk back to the car park at Seeboden on a forest path.

As the paths are relatively flat, the route can also be used with wheelchairs and prams.

Refreshments

In the very extensive forest area there are occasional picnic areas and fireplaces. Simple restaurants and shopping facilities can be found in the surrounding communities, such as Richwiller and Wittelsheim.
