Lake Eichen is a temporary karst lake surrounded by rough pastures, which fills and empties again irregularly in the course of the year for a few days to months. In the process of karstification, the collapse of underground caves of particularly water-soluble rocks such as limestone, gypsum and dolomite can create karst lakes that grow to several 100 square kilometres in size. Lake Eichen reaches a length of about 250m and a width of 135m in years with particularly high precipitation.
Lake Eichen is located in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park between the town of Schopfheim and Wehr, not far from Hasel. Because of its beautiful and car-free location with picnic and play facilities, this place is particularly suitable for family outings. Those interested in nature are likely to be particularly fascinated by the fairy crayfish found here. This rare animal is unique and can only be found in seven other places in Europe.

There are picnic facilities at the lake. In addition, when the lake basin is filled with water in the summer, the kiosk at the lake is open on Sundays and public holidays from 10.00 to 18.00 hrs.

The lake can be reached on foot. From the bus stop Schopfheim-Eichen you can follow the signs. Car drivers can park their vehicles at the Eichener See car park, on the right-hand side of the Eichener Höhe.
