The small village of Gersbach is situated on a high plateau (800 - 1,170 m above sea level) of the Hotzenwald in the southern Schwarzwald and is a typical Schwarzwald landscape on primary rock. The small district of Schopfheim is a state-recognised resort and offers numerous leisure and recreational opportunities. It is not only attractive for various winter sports, but also hikers, mountain bikers and local recreation seekers are drawn to Gersbach.
Due to its elevated location, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Swiss Jura and the Alpine chain as well as the two highest Schwarzwald mountains, Feldberg and Belchen, from various points on Gersbach's extensive network of hiking trails. A so-called cattle trail starts right at the information pavilion at the entrance to the village and allows you to observe wisents (European bison), horses, goats, yaks and llamas in their natural habitat. In the mountain streams of the area ("gold village") there are opportunities to try out panning for gold. In Gersbach there is also a reconstruction of a medieval fortification. A protected forest is located in the district for research into deadwood communities and the undisturbed development of their ecosystems.
Tour
Twelve information panels explain the various aspects of the native cattle world and the special role of grazing in the typical landscape of the Black Forest. The tour lasts about two hours and is suitable for all age groups. You can find a flyer for the tour here.

There are several refreshment and shopping facilities in the village. In addition, picnic areas, including barbecue and fire pits, are available at various points along the cattle trail.

Gersbach can be reached by public transport from Schopfheim or Zell. However, the timetable is limited, especially on weekends. For those arriving by car, we recommend using the "Schlittenhang Gersbach" car park.
