The quietly situated mixed deciduous forest is located near Welmlingen in the municipality of Efringen-Kirchen. The municipality forms a cultural area steeped in history in the border triangle of France, Switzerland and Germany and with its extensive network of hiking trails (map) and the many bicycle paths it is a great and popular starting point for hikes, walks and bicycle tours. There are accumulations of deadwood scattered throughout the forest, which support a diverse insect world and make exciting observations possible.

Tour

From the crossroads in the Eichwald at the signpost "Eichwald 406m", we recommend a circular walk along the cycle path southwards to the junction "Kreuzeichenweg". Following this path, you reach a beautiful, inviting picnic area at the next crossroads. From here, head south to the edge of the forest above Mappach with a view of the Feuerbach valley. From the picnic area northwards, you first reach a large clearing with young oak trees and, at the northern edge of the forest, horse farms with a beautiful view over the Markgräfler hill country to the Blauen (1165 m) in the southern Black Forest.

In addition to the lovely picnic area in the forest, the Michelin-starred Restaurant Traube is available to discerning hikers in Blansingen. However, guests must book in advance.

Arrival

From Basel, you can reach Welmlingen by car via Efringen-Kirchen. After reaching the edge of the forest, continue on the natural road. At the large crossroads with a signpost, you can park the car at the side of the road. Welmlingen is difficult to reach by public transport, so we recommend travelling by car.
